2. Topic Selection

In this project, we decided to create a video centered around the broad topic of the Earth's environment, as we believe this theme is well-suited for conveying information through the format of an infographic video. Ultimately, we chose the theme FASHION'S DIRTY SECRET – The Impact of Fast Fashion on the Environment for our video.

3. Visual References

To enhance our visual style, we curated simple clipart references and embraced a charming, minimalist aesthetic. This approach not only streamlined consistency across our illustration team but also fostered a cohesive creative direction. Furthermore, we analyzed diverse video references to refine our storyboard and script, ensuring a seamless and captivating presentation.

Final Video

This infographic video animation applies the LATCH principle effectively in its visual storytelling.

It uses Location to highlight the global distribution of fast fashion production and pollution.

Time to illustrate how the industry's impact has worsened over the years.

Category to break down different issues (environmental, social, and resource-related).

Hierarchy to guide the viewer from understanding the concept of fast fashion to recognizing the consequences and possible solutions.

REFLECTION

After a semester of studying Information Design, I've gained a deeper understanding of how to organize and present information clearly and effectively. I used to think design was mainly about visuals, but now I see it as a powerful tool for communication and storytelling.

Through this course, I learned how to use principles like LATCH, hierarchy, and typography to guide viewers and make complex information easier to understand. One key project was our final infographic video about fast fashion's environmental impact, which taught me how to turn research and data into a short, impactful animation.

I also improved my skills in layout design, visual thinking, and using design software like Illustrator and After Effects. Most importantly, I now think more critically about how people read, think, and feel when they see information.

This course has made me more confident as a communicator and more thoughtful as a designer.
